We'll begin this column in the same place we'll end it.

An invitation to you to join us Thursday at Cherry Street Tavern. It's our annual Family and Friends party.

And there's a place for you there.

More details in a moment.

But first? This weekend, Crabtree Farms hosts its annual plant sale with some 7,000 plants.

Kale, kiwi, arugula, Brussels sprouts, rudbeckia, raspberries, lettuce, lavender, marigolds, strawberries and more than 130 other plants for sale, including 29 native varieties.

Check out Crabtree's plant inventory.

The sale begins at 9 am on Saturday and Sunday.

  • We all love Raven Humphrey and Calliope.

And, apparently, amaro, as well.

Just yesterday, we emailed out to all Table members a list of upcoming events, including this:

Spooky Amaro: an Evening with Raven Humphrey.

It's our second amaro event. The first was a blast. Hilarious, delicious and connective, it was - to borrow from Bob Weir - more fun than frogs in milk.

So, Raven's offering a Halloween-version: her favorite amaro tastings paired with some surprising bites and plates.

Just 24 hours in and tickets are going faster than fast.

More info's here at The Table.

  • Sunday's feature on Dave Waters reminded us of the power of being succinct. (Not my strong suit.) Often, Dave would only say what's needed. Nothing more, nothing less.

Like this, one of our favorite lines ever:

"God put cows here to eat grass," he said. "That's what we need to be doing.

"Let them eat grass."

"Dave and Verlinda are as solid as the earth they walk on," one reader — a farmer herself — told us. "Thank you for honoring them in such a sacred way."

With a grateful nod to Dave, here's the heart of today's column. Could say a lot more and probably will later, but sometimes, less is better.

Only 13 words needed.

Thursday night's gonna be

More fun than frogs in milk.
